Video Art Project: Embrace the Error

The idea behind this assignment was to embrace the error. I got to thinking and I kept drawing up blanks. Honestly this project I started thinking about probably a good 3 weeks ago. I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to do. I finally struck inspiration when I went to golf practice on Friday. It just hit me. Golf. Golf. and more golf. So I made my project about golf. I know many of you don't play golf and don't really understand golf but I tried to make it relatable! I've grown up playing competitive golf. Let me tell you, it is not an easy game regardless of how easy it looks when the pros do it. Even the pros duck hook it or get a quad bogey or hit it out of bounds. Golf is not a game of perfect. Do you know how many times I've had to remind myself of this? You're going to make a mistake. Even if you shot 18 under par, a birdie on every single hole, you would probably say that you missed a putt or you duffed a chip or something!

Therefore, I made this video as an ode to golf almost. Yeah golf can freaking suck some days like every thing in the entire world could just go wrong. You could get a shitty bounce you could be under a tree, blah blah blah. The thing with golf though is that it gives you the opportunity to create something. You could be having the worst round of your life and you could get a birdie or an eagle or a hole in one. Golf is a funny sport. Each hole is a new hole. And so my project is embracing the bad shots because they're going to happen!! Enjoy :)

Golan Levin Interview

I found this interview to be extremely insightful. I have only ever used basic video editing software and so listening to his answers to these questions was very informational. I also thought that it was funny that when he was answering certain questions, he would be adjusted to reflect that. For example, he was talking about abstraction and the video got extremely distorted and also he was talking about perspective and the perspective to the individual changed.

It was also interesting because he filmed this three years ago. He is talking about the future in his interview and some of the things that he was talking about has already changed or made a difference. Certain things haven't developed but other things have.

Music-technology continued part 3

The last genre I looked at was Disco. Honestly I was having a hard time coming up with the artists in the genres and also trying to find one's using technology. Disco is so old, there really isn't much technology being used. However, I did find a disco band which was called ABBA. You may know them, basically the entire sound track of mama mia.

Music-technology continued

The next genre that I found was Neo psychedelic. A band that I found was called Tame Impala. The leader singer in this band changes his voice by using a microphone that changes his voice.

Music-Technology

The first artist that I found was one under the genre of Dubstep and the artist's name is Flux Pavilion. Flux uses a vocal processor, audio recording, compressor, and more to create his music.

The next genre that I chose was electronic. The band that I found is called Disclosure. They use a lot of technology in their performances. During their performances they have a bunch of lights going. Their whole logo for the band is this face that is outlined in lights and then of course when they play they use a lot of different technology that's different than your typical instrument.

The next genre that I found was New Wave. The band is called Moguai. Moguai has routinely met up with Mau5. Unfortunately all of his live performances are over an hour long so I cannot post the videos, but here is a clip of his music

Robots

We were talking about advanced technology the other day in class. The one example came from the guy who created a robot to look just like him. I feel like in the future, we could have really advanced technology. It made me think of the movie Interstellar where they have these robots called Case, Kipp, and Tars.

Here's the clip!

Performance Art Piece

WOW! I had so much fun doing this project! Never done something like this before and it was amazing! To go with the theme of happiness I decided to go with the idea of invoking happiness. So I thought about, what did I want to accomplish before I died? So I got to thinking and I put together this box. I wanted it to be interactive and I wanted it to stand out. I spray painted this box gold and fitted it for someone to wear a hat underneath it so that they could wear it on their face. My good friend Fatin wore this for 40 minutes. She was carrying sharpies, notecards, and a bucket. Get it? A bucket for a bucket list ;) Again, had so much fun!!! A lot of people came up to her and wrote stuff down!! Next time I would definitely film for longer!!! This was so cool!!!!
